Routes are approximate: lines join positions recorded about every 20 seconds, so they show where you went, not the exact path or how you travelled. Positions are placed with World of Warcraft's own map data. Map artwork © Blizzard Entertainment, from the game's files. World of Warcraft is a trademark of Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. Ignotos Companion
Version 0.3.0
A small addon for WoW: Forever (it works on Retail too) that quietly notes where your character goes, so you can see your journey here. It never goes online and you can pause it any time.
It's a prototype, so tell us on Discord if anything looks wrong. Forever support will be properly tested once Forever launches.
Keep it running from level 1 to 60 and you'll see your whole journey in one go. Here's roughly what that takes, for a typical 1 to 60 of about 6 days played:
~18k
positions noted
2.5 MB
on your PC
0.4 MB
of text to paste
That's less than a single phone photo (about 3 MB) for the whole adventure, and the bit you paste here is about a tenth of a song (about 4 MB). The addon only checks your position every 20 seconds, only keeps it when you've moved, and has room for around 208 hours of travelling.
How it works
Step 1
With the Ignotos Companion addon installed, your character quietly notes where it has been, about every 20 seconds while you're on the move. Pause it any time with /iggy pause.
Step 2
Whenever you like, type /iggy export in game. A window opens with your export already selected: press Ctrl+C to copy it.
Step 3
Paste it into the box beside the map and press Import. Your route appears straight away, just for you. Signed-in members can then share it so other Iggys see it too. Share the same character again later and its route is simply updated.
The addon only records on your own computer, and an import stays in your browser. If you choose to share, Ignotos keeps just your character's name, realm, class, level and positions, and only signed-in Ignotos members can see them. Your Discord name follows your profile's privacy setting. Remove your route from the map whenever you like and it's deleted.
The addon is optional and still being tested. You don't need it to be part of Ignotos, and there are no scores, streaks or targets here. It's just a keepsake of where you've been. Try the illustrative sample above to see how it works.
